Today is the last day of June.

It is the last day for a “Tune in June – for Hoping and Coping.”

The last tune in June is “Happy” by Pharrel Williams. I chose this song because you cannot listen to this song without feeling happy. Even if you are in a severe depression, as I have been many times, I know hearing and listening to this song would give me at least a small hint, a glimmer, a second of some joy, even for that brief moment in time. I might have even imagined a little smile from somewhere deep within me.

Music is a great coping mechanism for mental illness or any illness, or during any trials and struggles and difficult seasons of your lives. Christian and worship and praise music and other inspirational music helped me significantly by helping me cope and distracting my suicidal ideations, other negative thoughts and bad memories during my long and continuous journey of recovery.

Music is powerful. Many times the music sparked emotions in me when I was emotionless, even making me cry and feel deep emotions that were not there before, but needed to resurface. My tears would flow, the emotions needed to come out and my music would do that for me. Plus, my worship music always brought me closer to God, feeling his spirit fill up my environment, mind, heart and soul.

With the tunes in June I wanted to help make you happy wherever you are in your journey of life, recovery, struggles, trauma, brokenness or contentment, peace, happiness, joy and love of life.

Wherever you are and were on each day and however you are and were feeling I wanted to bring you a glimpse of joy, a sparkle of hope, a sense of contentment and peace and a desire and reason to fight and cope.

By the way as I am typing this, I am having a nice little snack, a snack wrapped and decorated in red, white and blue in honor of the 4th of July coming soon. My snack is a patriotic snack, a patriotic red, white and blue, mini Reeces peanut butter cup, or three actually.

I am going to be happy eating my red, white and blue packaged Reeces Peanut butter cups, as I listen again to the song “Happy” by Pharrel. A girl needs her chocolate and some happy music every morning.

Please listen and watch this music video “Happy” by Pharrel Williams

and you will start your day off with a smile, a skip in your step, a dance in your pants and I pray you will be happy today and many more days and months to come.

Remember, never give up. You can have a happy, love-filled, joyful, purposeful, meaningful and fulfilled life.

There is always hope.

Enjoy the song.

“Because I’m happy…
Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Because I’m happy…
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
Because I’m happy…
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you
Because I’m happy…
Clap along if you feel like that’s what you wanna do…”
